This World Sleep Day, we’re looking for the ultimate answer to a great night’s sleep, and research shows that CBD oil might just be the solution we’re all looking for. One study in 2019 found that 66% of people reported better sleep after taking 25mg CBD capsules every day for one month. Studies also found that CBD helped to increase sleep duration, promote deeper sleep and reduced the amount of time it takes to fall asleep. We spoke with Henry Colyer at Goodrays to understand how CBD impacts our sleep quality.
“In smaller doses, CBD stimulates alertness and reduces daytime sleepiness, which is obviously important for daytime performance and focus, but in turn, helps to provide for improved nighttime sleep.”
Henry also encourages people to find a routine that works for them at night. Reducing alcohol intake, getting regular exercise and cutting down screen time before bed can be helpful practices to follow, but he further recommends using CBD Oil Drops as part of an evening routine.
“I’ve found that a dose of CBD, even in the morning, has meant my sleeping pattern has become more regimented. A calmer outlook during the day sets me up for a calmer evening”.Henry Colyer, Head of Marketing at Goodrays
What is CBD Oil?
CBD oil, which stands for ‘cannabidiol,’ is not the same as marijuana or ‘weed’, despite the fact that it is taken from the cannabis plant – a common misperception about the herbal supplement. CBD and THC are the two major active chemicals in cannabis; CBD has a relaxing effect and is not psychoactive (meaning it does not alter the state of mind), but THC is and is responsible for the anxiety and paranoia typically associated with cannabis use.
How does CBD Oil work?
When compared to CBD in its most basic extracted form, a tincture, CBD oils are a terrific method to give a dose with ease and precision. You place 1ml CBD oil under the tongue for 60 seconds, and the compound is in the bloodstream. Henry commented “The effects are usually felt between 20 minutes and 1 hour. Of course, everyone is different, but this is what we’ve found to be the case with our products so far.” Because CBD increases relaxation and reduces anxiety, it allows the body to enter the natural sleep state. It’s recommended the drops up to an hour before going to bed, though this may vary based on the individual.
The beauty of CBD oil is that you can start with a low dose and gradually increase it as needed. Striking the correct balance for your body is essential, and here is where CBD oils really shine. Simple measurements can be administered to the bottom of your tongue as part of a nightly ritual using a small pipette. You can discover your perfect balance by increasing or lowering the drops as needed.
When you consume CBD as a drink or gummy, it must pass through your stomach and liver before reaching your bloodstream. By taking the oil sublingually, the CBD travels through a much more direct path into the bloodstream delivering a more effective and faster-acting dose.
Clinical studies on the effects of CBD have employed a wide range of dosages. Although there is evidence that doses of up to 1,500 mg are safe and well tolerated in humans, the Food Standards Agency recommends that people take no more than 70mg of CBD per day.
What CBD products can I use for sleep?
Goodrays Peppermint CBD sleep drops contain high quality CBD to help unwind your mind and relax your body, preparing you for uninterrupted, deep sleep.
Henry advised “There are no side effects from the drops, and they won’t leave you drowsy so you are still safe to drive or operate heavy machinery. The science behind the solution is simple. By reducing stress and anxiety, Goodrays UK CBD oil drops help you to relax into your evenings and have a better sleeping pattern.”
It should take 10 to 20 minutes for you to feel the relaxing benefits of CBD oil after ingesting it sublingually. The substance slows your heart rate, reduces tension and anxiety, and aids concentration. Because CBD products contain no THC, you will not have any of the side effects that others experience while using cannabis. One thing to keep in mind is that there are no hard and fast rules for taking CBD, but there are a few things you can do to optimise your dose. The optimum time of day to take CBD depends on your needs, whether it’s to treat anxiety, pain, or better sleep.
Can CBD oil be used to treat insomnia?
Insomnia affects far more people than you might think. In the United Kingdom alone, it is estimated that over 16 million adults suffer from a sleep disturbance. Sleep deprivation can cause mood swings and even personality changes.
Some documented causes of sleep deprivation include alcohol, coffee, nicotine, overeating, menstruation, and even climate. There are several strategies to address these concerns, some of which may seem obvious, but there are others that can help you get a better night’s sleep.
Making your bedroom darker and more quiet can help. Exercise and a healthy diet might also help you find a better sleep solution. But, for some trapped in a never-ending cycle of night and day shifts at work, there may appear to be no way out.
For people who suffer from insomnia, the cycle can continue indefinitely. No sleep at night leads to naps and excessive weariness during the day, which leads to no sleep at night. Finding a way to break the cycle can be difficult. Whilst more research is needed on how effective CBD can be for treating insomnia, Henry reported that some of their customers are finding it beneficial to help them rest at the end of the day.
If you’re struggling with sleep quality or insomnia, CBD Oil could be an alternative method to try. When starting out with any CBD products, it’s recommended to start at the lowest dosage and build up from there to gauge your tolerance and find the right balance for you. There are so many different factors that can impact our sleep, and during high periods of stress, CBD may not be as effective to help with sleep, compared to calmer times. As part of a normal, restful bedtime routine, CBD Oil can be a good addition to help you get a dreamy night’s sleep.
Trying out any new supplements comes with its cautions, and it’s advisable to research the different products available on the market, and speak to healthcare professionals if you are currently taking any medications.
